South Sudan: Clashes kill at least five people in Tonj, Warrap State as of July 16

Fighting between rival communities has left at least five people dead and over 13 others wounded in Tonj, Warrap State, as of July 16. According to local officials, fighting between members of the Lou Paher and Luanjang communities began in the Marial Lou area July 8. More than 5,000 people have been displaced due to the violence. Tonj is located approximately 410 km (255 mi) northwest of Juba.

A heightened security presence is likely in the area over the coming days. Further clashes between rival communities are also possible over the coming days and weeks. Incidents are unlikely to target foreign personnel; however, the risk from incidental violence remains high.
