New Zealand: Authorities to suspend quarantine-free travel from all of Australia from 23:59 July 23 /update 14

New Zealand to halt quarantine-free travel from Australia from 23:59 July 23. Managed flights possible.

Warning

Event

New Zealand will halt quarantine-free travel from Australia from 23:59 July 23 due to concerns over the delta variant of COVID-19. The suspension will last at least eight weeks. The government will permit New Zealand citizens and permanent residents, Australian residents, and their close relatives to enter New Zealand through July 30 without quarantine on managed flights. Passengers must obtain a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of departure and complete health declarations.

Returning travelers from New South Wales must depart from Sydney Airport (SYD) and quarantine at government facilities 14 days after entry. Passengers from Victoria must self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. Entrants from both states must undergo regular testing during quarantine.

Outbound flights to Australia will likely remain operational; however, the adjustment will probably lead to Trans-Tasman flight cancellations in the coming weeks.

Advice

Consider deferring travel plans and check with travel providers for rebooking options if impacted by the quarantine exemption suspension. Follow all official instructions.
