Informational

Event

Residual disruptions to AVE high-speed rail services between Madrid and Barcelona will likely continue into the late evening of July 23 following an earlier service suspension due to a lineside fire. The blaze, which broke out at an industrial site in Loeches, about 20 km (12 miles) east of the Spanish capital, prompted authorities to shut down AVE traffic on the segment of the Madrid-Zaragoza-Barcelona line between Alcara de Henares and Mejorada del Campo for at least two hours while first responders brought the fire under control. Police also closed the M-206 motorway near Loeches and instituted traffic diversions. While rail traffic resumed at about 17:50, delays and cancellations remain possible for several hours.

Advice

Allow additional time for rail travel between Madrid and Barcelona on the evening of July 23. Check service schedules before departing.
