Equatorial Guinea: Authorities maintain COVID-19 restrictions as of July 31 /update 22

Equatorial Guinea maintains COVID-19 restrictions as of July 31. The 23:00-05:00 curfew remains in effect.

Critical

Event

Authorities maintain COVID-19 domestic and international travel restrictions as of July 31. The following measures remain in place:

Domestic Measures

  • A 23:00-05:00 nationwide curfew remains in effect.

  • Interdistrict and interprovincial travel within continental Equatorial Guinea has resumed.

  • Interregional commercial transport between continental Equatorial Guinea and the capital island has resumed; national airlines may operate three interregional flights per week and two maritime trips per week.

  • Bars, discotheques, casinos, and other entertainment venues remain closed. Weddings, baptisms, and other celebratory events are suspended.

  • Places of worship must adhere to strict preventative guidelines.

  • Protective facemasks are compulsory in public places.

International Travel
Limited international travel is ongoing, and nationals, residents, diplomats, businesspeople, and those who have received government approval are permitted to travel. Several requirements are in place, including the following:

  • All arriving passengers must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 48 hours prior, as well as proof of residency, employment, or business purpose of the visit. Travelers will also undergo a rapid test upon arrival.

  • All travelers are required to quarantine for four to five days, regardless of COVID-19 test results. Travelers will then be required to take a second test once the four-five days have passed.

  • Authorities may withdraw passports from passengers if an invalid PCR test is presented; however, this mandate is not strictly enforced.

  • Travelers from countries with variant strains of the disease may be prohibited from entering the country until further notice. Travelers from India and the UK have previously been banned from entry except for those who travel for business reasons. It remains unclear whether the measure still applies.

  • Sea and land borders are restricted to essential workers or under government approval.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Carry proper identification documents to present at security checks. Heed all official advisories and remain non-confrontational if stopped by authorities. Consider delaying travel if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays and possibly result in quarantine. Carry proper identification documents to present at security checks.
