Denmark amends COVID-19 related international entry restrictions as of Aug. 14; domestic restrictions remain in place.

Critical

Event

Authorities in Denmark have amended COVID-19 related international entry restrictions as of Aug. 16. Officials have removed all countries from the red category, which indicated the highest assessed level of risk. From Aug. 14, all countries are classified as either green, yellow, or orange in increasing order of assessed risk. Different travel restrictions apply depending on the color designation of the departure country or country of residence; a full list of countries by color designation is available here.

Fully vaccinated travelers from green and yellow countries or habitually resident in orange OECD countries can enter Denmark without further requirements. The vaccine certificate must show that the individual completed the full course of vaccination approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) between 14 days and twelve months before entry. Vaccinated travelers habitually resident in orange non-OECD countries must have a worthy purpose to enter Denmark, possess a negative PCR test taken in the 72 hours before entry or a negative antigen test taken in the 48 hours before entry, submit to a test on arrival, and self-isolate for 10 days on arrival. Self-isolation can be ended following a negative result of a test taken no less than four days after arrival.

Unvaccinated travelers from green and yellow countries with a certificate evidencing recovery from COVID-19 in the previous 12 months may enter without further requirements. Such travelers from orange countries must have a worthy purpose to enter Denmark.

All other unvaccinated travelers must have a negative PCR test taken in the 72 hours before entry or a negative antigen test taken in the 48 hours before entry. No further restrictions apply to unvaccinated travelers from green countries. Unvaccinated travelers from yellow countries must also take a test within 24 hours of arrival. Unvaccinated travelers from orange countries must have a worthy purpose for entering, take a test within 24 hours of arrival, and self-isolate for 10 days on arrival. Self-isolation can be ended following a negative result of a test taken no less than four days after arrival.

All individuals arriving via air must also submit to a COVID-19 test on arrival.

Domestic Restrictions
Authorities are maintaining certain domestic COVID-19 restrictions as of Aug. 16. All businesses, except for nightclubs and discotheques, are allowed to reopen nationwide. Attendance at indoor gatherings is limited to 500 persons. Many businesses and services may only be accessed by individuals with a corona passport. Corona passports are issued electronically or in paper form to individuals who meet one of the following three criteria:

  • Have tested negative for COVID-19 within the previous 96 hours (PCR) or 72 hours (antigen);

  • Have been vaccinated against COVID-19; or

  • Have recovered from COVID-19.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments.
