Lebanon: British Embassy in Lebanon to withdraw some staff and dependents in response to fuel shortages, as of Aug. 22

British Embassy in Lebanon announces the intention to withdraw some staff due to fuel supply concerns. Consular services unaffected.

Informational

Event

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office updated its travel advice for Lebanon Aug. 20, noting that due to the unreliability of fuel supplies and the impact on critical services, some British embassy staff and dependents in the country were being temporarily withdrawn. However, the embassy will continue to provide 24/7 consular assistance and support to British nationals in Lebanon.

The reduction in staff could result in some processing delays or disruptions in the coming weeks.

Advice

Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Liaise with trusted contacts for updates on the political, security, and economic situation in the country. Refuel vehicles and generators regularly. Plan for fuel shortages. Reconfirm the status of transport services before departure.
