Authorities extend Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) measures in Metro Manila, Philippines, until at least Sept. 15.

Warning

Event

The government has extended Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), the second tightest set of rules, in Metro Manila until at least Sept. 15 amid ongoing COVID-19 activity. A 22:00-04:00 curfew remains in place; exceptions are likely for people seeking medical help, among other reasons. Residents below the age of 18, above the age of 65, or individuals with health risks must remain at home. Officials no longer require individuals to present quarantine passes when leaving home for essential reasons. Gatherings remain prohibited. Authorities require people to wear a facemask and face shields in public spaces.

Officials encourage workers to telecommute as much as possible. Authorities will likely allow critical industries like agriculture and construction to work on-site at full capacity; cargo and freight services are also operating. However, other sectors may operate with half their workforce. Nonessential businesses, like exhibitions, tourist attractions, and personal services, remain closed. Food establishments may only offer takeaway and delivery services.

Increased security is likely to continue across Metro Manila. Business and transport disruptions will probably continue. Authorities may introduce further restrictions at short notice depending on COVID-19 activity.

Advice

Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Confirm appointments. Remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers. Make allowances for likely business disruptions.
