The Nacala Logistics-operated passenger train service between Limbe and Balaka has been suspended as of Oct. 9 for 14 days. The suspension is in response to acts of vandalism on and theft of rail infrastructure along the route. The train will continue to operate between Balaka and Nayuchi.

Increased demand is likely for alternative transport service between the two routes through late October. Officials could extend the suspension of the service in response to security and safety assessments.
