Greece: Staff at Port of Piraeus near Athens strike Nov. 5-6

Unionized workers at Piers II and III at the Port of Piraeus near Athens plan to strike Nov. 5-6. The purpose of the work stoppage is to demand better working conditions following the death of a port worker in late October.

Disruptions to port operations, including general cargo and passenger ferry services, are almost certain during the strike unless it is averted. Demonstrations by striking workers are also possible outside of the port. Lingering shipping delays could persist after the action ends as port workers clear any backlogs.
