New Caledonia will impose heightened controls 14:00 Nov. 13-05:00 Nov. 15 to curb COVID-19 activity. Under these restrictions, all residents must stay home except for essential needs, emergencies and medical appointments, employment that requires an on-site presence, and other permitted activities. Individuals may also exercise for up to an hour daily within 1 km (0.62 miles) of their residence. Funerals can occur with up to 15 people, and religious events can take place at one-third capacity. All other gatherings are banned. Companies must allow remote work, if possible.
Authorities will enforce a 22:00-05:00 curfew. During this period, journeys can only occur for work, medical emergencies, and travel to La Tontouta International Airport (NOU). Most businesses - except gas stations - must close during curfew hours.
Authorities require travel certificates for people traveling during the lockdown period; employers must sign travel certificates for professional purposes. Police will deploy to enforce movement restrictions; officials could issue a fine of CFP 15,000 for an initial offense.
