Activists and opposition groups will mark Slovakia's Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day with protests throughout Bratislava on Nov. 17. Participants have various grievances but will largely denounce government policies, including COVID-19-related restrictions. Details of the following gatherings have been confirmed:
13:00: The Direction - Slovak Social Democracy party will rally outside the National Council in Alexander Dubcek Square
15:00: Republika party rally in Safarik Square
15:00: Activist protest march from Bratislava Main Station
Smaller gatherings should be anticipated in public spaces throughout the city center. Authorities have deployed additional police to monitor these and other demonstrations. Large crowds and associated security measures will likely prompt localized traffic and public transport disruptions. Police may attempt to disperse activists if they become disruptive or attempt to breach security cordons, which could lead to isolated clashes. While bystanders are unlikely to be targeted in any violence, they would face an indirect physical threat.
