Sweden: Authorities maintain COVID-19-related entry restrictions and domestic measures as of Nov. 18 /update 29

Sweden maintains international entry restrictions and domestic measures imposed to slow the spread of COVID-19, as of Nov. 18.

International Entry Restrictions
Sweden previously eased international entry requirements for travelers from Armenia. As of Nov. 15, fully vaccinated travelers from Armenia can enter Sweden upon presentation of a recognized vaccination certificate. There is no longer a testing requirement.

Restrictions were also recently eased on travelers from Argentina, Colombia, Namibia, and Peru. Effective Nov. 8, fully vaccinated travelers from these countries may enter Sweden upon presentation of a recognized vaccination certificate and proof of a negative PCR test result no more than 72 hours old. Additionally, as of Nov. 5, vaccinated travelers from the US may enter Sweden with a valid US vaccine certificate and need not undergo testing. Unvaccinated travelers from the US remain barred from entry. Officials also accept vaccine certificates from Guernsey, the Isle of Man, and Jersey in the UK, starting Nov. 5; vaccine certificates from the rest of the UK have been accepted since Oct. 11.

A general prohibition on travel from outside the EU/EEA will remain in effect until at least Jan. 31, 2022. Exemptions are in place for EU citizens and residents and for a limited number of essential reasons. As of Nov. 18, residents of Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, Jordan, Kuwait, Macao, Namibia, New Zealand, Qatar, Peru, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, UAE, and Uruguay can enter Sweden with a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken in the 72 hours prior to arrival or an EU COVID Certificate. Fully vaccinated individuals with a vaccination certificate issued at least 14 days prior to entering Sweden by authorities in Albania, Andorra, Faroe Islands, Israel, Morocco, Monaco, North Macedonia, Panama, San Marino, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, Ukraine, or Vatican City can enter from any country without presenting a negative COVID-19 test result.

There are no entry restrictions applicable to travelers arriving from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, or Norway. Travelers arriving from other EU/EEA countries must possess either the EU Digital COVID Certificate documenting COVID-19 vaccination, a certificate indicating recovery from COVID-19, or a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in Sweden.

Domestic Restrictions
Authorities have lifted most of the nation's domestic COVID-19 restrictions. Unvaccinated individuals are advised to limit social contact, and any individual with symptoms of COVID-19 is still obliged to get tested and avoid social contact while awaiting the result.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments.
