The Timaru District Council has issued a boil water advisory for parts of Downlands and Te Moana as of Nov. 29 due to increased silt in the water supply. The notice impacts the Taiko/Sutherlands, Waitohi, Waimate, Te Moana, and Geraldine Downs zones, with some exceptions. Officials have warned residents to boil water from taps for at least one minute before consumption. The government has not provided a time frame for the advisory.

Timaru District is about 125 km (77 miles) southwest of Christchurch.
