Iraq: Protest ongoing in Nasiriyah Dec. 5

A demonstration is taking place along the Al-Nasr and Al-Zaytoun bridges in central Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar Governorate, as of the afternoon of Dec. 5. The purpose of the action is to demand greater employment opportunities.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security posture throughout Nasiriyah, including around popular protest sites. Localized transport disruptions are likely in the area through at least late Dec. 5. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible over the coming hours.
