Civil society activists along with supporters of the Tiako I Madagasikarahave (TIM) opposition party have called for a protest in Antananarivo Dec. 10. to denounce an increase in the price of basic goods as well as recent power and water cuts in the capital. Up to 5000 participants are expected to gather at Place du 13 Mai, located near the capital's Town Hall, on Avenue de l'Independance. The exact start time is unclear. Although organizers have called for a peaceful demonstration, authorities have banned the event. Participants have stated they would gather despite the ban. A heightened security presence is reported in the vicinity of the Place du 13 Mai.

Clashes are possible if protesters ignore police orders to disperse. Police deployments and protests will likely result in ground travel and business operation disruptions.
