Protests calling for the dismissal of Najaf Governor Louay Al-Yasiri are likely to persist in Najaf through mid-December. Disruptive gatherings were reported Dec. 11; unrest resumed Dec. 12 with demonstrators blocking multiple routes. Protests are likely near government buildings, along major routes, in the city center and near the governor's residence.

Security forces will almost certainly deploy to manage protests. Confrontations between demonstrators and the police are likely. Ground travel delays near protest locations are also likely.
