Peru: Unionized air traffic controllers plan to strike nationwide Dec. 23-26
Unionized air traffic controllers plan nationwide strike in Peru 19:00 Dec. 23-19:00 Dec. 26. Flight disruptions likely.
Event
The Union of Air Traffic Controllers of Peru (El Sindicato Unificado de Controladores de Transito Aereo del Peru, SUCTA) called for a nationwide strike 19:00 Dec. 23-19:00 Dec. 26. The labor action comes following workers' claims that the Peruvian Corporation of Commercial Airports and Aviation (Corporacion Peruana de Aeropuertos y Aviacion Comercial, CORPAC) failed to meet previously signed agreements for better working conditions.
Authorities are attempting to prevent the strike from taking place and finding ways to avoid disruptions to flight itineraries. Unless averted, the strike is likely to disrupt flights and could result in delays or cancellations Dec. 23-26.
Advice
Contact airlines to confirm flight status if booked to fly to, from, or within Peru Dec. 23-26. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed.
