Officials have ordered emergency evacuations in Madu-dong of Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, as of the afternoon of Dec. 31. Emergency crews are present at the multistorey Grand Plaza building due to a potential collapse after structural damage occurred in the parking area. Security forces have cordoned off the area and imposed traffic restrictions. There are no immediate reports of casualties.

Heightened security, as well as localized business and transport disruptions, are likely in the area. through at least the evening of Dec. 31. Operations at nearby facilities may also face delays or interruptions, mainly due to possible precautionary evacuations. Lingering disruptions are possible after operations end.

The incident site is approximately 20 km (12.4 miles) northwest of Seoul.
