South Sudan: COVID-19-related domestic controls and travel restrictions remain largely unchanged as of Jan.10 /update 20

Event

As of Jan. 10, the COVID-19-related restrictions in force in South Sudan remain largely unchanged by comparison with those in place during mid-November of 2021.

Domestic Measures
A nationwide 22:00-05:00 curfew remains in place. All gatherings are limited to five people in an open space, while gatherings for unvaccinated individuals must not exceed more than two persons. Additionally, all residents must use protective facemasks in public places.

International Travel Restrictions
Domestic and international flights are operating. All international travelers arriving at Juba International Airport (JUB) require authorization from South Sudan's National Taskforce before entry. Permitted travelers must present a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before arriving in South Sudan.

Travelers are exempt from quarantine if they have documentation of full COVID-19 vaccination (completed at least two weeks before traveling) or evidence of a positive PCR test result within the six months before travel. Individuals who present a negative PCR test certificate but are not fully vaccinated must quarantine for 10 days; they can undergo a PCR test on day five and exit quarantine on day seven if the test is negative. Travelers must also comply with preventive measures, including wearing protective facemasks and social distancing. South Sudan's land borders are open; however, restrictions by neighboring countries have limited cross-border movement.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity.

Confirm all planned travel arrangements. Plan accordingly for protracted commercial, transport, and logistics disruptions. Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Consider delaying travel if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments.
