Peru: Magnitude-5.1 earthquake occurs in Ucayali Region March 5

A magnitude-5.1 earthquake occurred in Atalaya Province, Ucayali Region in central Peru at around 02:45 March 5. The epicenter was about 68 km (42 miles) north-northeast of Puerto Ocopa, Peru. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 134 km (83 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout central Peru and extreme western parts of Acre State, Brazil. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake, and significant damage is unlikely given the temblor's depth of focus. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Aftershocks are possible over the coming days.
