France: Security incident in Marseille, March 12

A knife-wielding assailant attacked and injured a police officer in front of the Hotel de Ville along the Quai du Port, in Marseilles, March 12. The assailant was shot by security personnel at the site. There is no wider threat to the public. The motive for the attack is unclear. Heightened security is likely in the vicinity of the incident over the coming hours as police forces carry out the investigation.
