French Polynesia: Air traffic controllers to stop work territorywide from 19:00 March 29

Air traffic controllers to strike in French Polynesia from 19:00 March 29. Minimum service likely; flight disruptions possible.

Warning

Event

Unionized air traffic controllers plan to strike in French Polynesia from 19:00 March 29 until the morning of April 2 to oppose alleged plans to downsize the workforce. The union is calling on the government to maintain the current workforce due to safety concerns. Workers will maintain a minimum level of service during the action; however, the labor action could still trigger flight disruptions, including at Faa'a International Airport (PPT).

Air traffic controllers could hold protests in conjunction with the strike. Actions could occur near airports in the territory or near government offices in Papeete. Any rallies that occur will likely remain small. However, localized transport disruptions are possible, especially if workers decide to protest near PPT.

Advice

Contact airlines to confirm flights if traveling before April 2. Plan for possible flight disruptions; do not check out of accommodations until ensuring onward travel. Exercise caution near protests. Check local media or seek updated information from local contacts on protest activity at the airport, as actions could occur unannounced. Allow additional time to reach airports.
