CAR: Nationwide security curfew eased as of April 28
Authorities ease security-related curfew across CAR as of April 28. Rebel groups remain active.
Event
As of April 28, officials have eased the nationwide security curfew to 00:01-05:00. Authorities initially imposed as 20:00-05:00 curfew due to recurrent rebel activity and related widespread violence.
Authorities may amend the curfew with little or no notice if the security situation changes.
Context
A civil war has been ongoing in CAR since 2013. Despite ongoing reconciliation efforts and peace talks, rebel groups continue to pose a threat throughout the country. The security situation will likely remain volatile in the near term. Most western governments advise against all travel across the country.
Advice
Abide by the curfew. Remain calm and nonconfrontational, and comply with authorities' directives. Exercise a high degree of vigilance due to the threat of violence. Avoid travel at night and undertake all travel outside of urban centers in convoy and following a full security review of the route. Maintain regular contact with diplomatic representations.
