Iraq: Protests reported in Nasiriyah May 8

Event

Protesters have gathered in several locations in Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar Governorate, including Al-Haboubi Square and along Al-Zaytoun bridge May 8. Protesters have reportedly blocked traffic along Al-Zaytoun bridge. The purpose of the action is to demand greater employment opportunities.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security posture in the protest area until the situation stabilizes. Localized transport disruptions are likely in the area through at least late May 8. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible over the coming hours.
