Nigeria: Runway repair work likely to prompt flight disruptions at Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport June 4-5
Runway repair work likely to prompt flight disruptions at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, June 4-5.
Event
Flight disruptions are likely at Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) June 4-5 as technicians perform essential repairs to the facility's runway 18R/36L. Runway 18R/36L will be closed between the hours of 07:00-14:00 on the two scheduled work days. Although LOS' second runway will continue operating normally, civil aviation authorities anticipate some changes to flight schedules, with a number of international flights likely being diverted to other regional airports such as Cotonou Cadjehoun Airport (COO) in Benin and Accra Kotoka International (ACC) in Ghana. A similar period of repairs performed May 28-29 caused significant disruptions to domestic and international flights at LOS.
Advice
Contact airlines to confirm flight schedules if booked to fly via LOS June 4-5. Consider alternative arrangements for critical travel. Allow extra time for ground travel to Lagos in the event of a flight diversion.
