Opposition and pro-government political activists are planning to protest in Bangui July 1 over constitutional changes. Opposition supporters are also calling for President Faustin Archange Touadera's resignation. The start time for the protests has yet to be disclosed. According to the US Embassy in Bangui, protesters are expected to gather at various locations across the city, including:

  • Boganda Circle (near Corail supermarket)

  • EU Headquarters

  • Ministry of Tourism (Places des Nations Unies)

  • Marabena Circle

  • Martyr’s Monument

  • The National Stadium (Stade de 20,000 places)

  • SICA intersection

  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs

  • The Prime Minister’s Offices (Primature)

  • The National Assembly

Heightened security measures are likely near the protest venues. Clashes between opposing supporters are possible. Clashes between protesters and security forces are possible, should protesters ignore orders to disperse. Localized business and transportation disruptions likely through July 1.
