The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), South Korea's largest union, will hold a mass rally in Seoul the afternoon of July 2 to demand improved labor policies and an increased minimum wage. While authorities have banned the event, the union plans to proceed with the rally. Participants will gather at Seoul Plaza from 15:00 before marching towards Samgakji Rotary. Workers also plan to protest at Sejong-daero, Eulji-ro, and Cheonggyecheon-ro. KCTU claims as many as 45,000 people will participate in the demonstration.
Authorities will likely increase security at any rally site and its surrounding areas July 2. Localized transport and business disruptions are possible during the rallies, especially if activists occupy nearby roads. Traffic congestion is likely along Sejong-daero and Hangang-daero. While violence is unlikely at the rallies, clashes between protesters and police remain possible.
