Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC) rebels captured Kembe, Basse-Kotto Prefecture, July 14. Rebels assaulted the town in the early morning forcing government troops to withdraw. Civilians in the surrounding area have reportedly fled.

Government forces may attempt to retake the town in the coming days. Further clashes are possible. The capture of the town will likely impact travel along the RN2 which connects Bangui with the east of the country.

Avoid travel at night and undertake all travel outside of urban centers in convoy and following a full security review of the route. Liaise with trusted sources on the status of routes before departure. Maintain regular contact with diplomatic representations
