New Caledonia: Air Caledonie warns of flight disruptions Aug. 10 due to ongoing strike

Labor action affecting Air Caledonie flights in New Caledonia as of Aug. 9. Flights canceled Aug. 10. Additional disruptions possible.

Warning

Event

A USTKE strike continues to impact Air Caledonie (TY) services as of Aug. 9 to demand the reinstatement of a recently retrenched local pilot in training. TY has canceled flights and closed sales and ticketing offices territorywide Aug. 10. Although the airline expects operations to begin normalizing Aug. 11, additional disruptions remain possible.

Union members and supporters previously protested outside the Noumea Magenta Airport (GEA) terminal. Future gatherings at GEA and smaller gatherings at other main airports in the territory are possible. However, significant traffic delays at terminals are unlikely.

Context

Air Caledonie claims that the pilot failed to attain the proper level to pilot flights but has offered to pay for additional independent training during negotiations. The union has yet to respond to the offer, suggesting further actions are possible in the coming days.

Advice

Confirm flights. Contact TY to reschedule flights or make alternative arrangements, especially if flying Aug. 10. Do not check out of accommodations until verifying onward travel.
