India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Karnataka and Kerala states Sept. 1-2 /update 1
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Karnataka and Kerala states, India, Sept. 1-2. Increased security likely; disruptions possible.
Event
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kochi, Kerala State, and Mangaluru, Karnataka State, Sept. 1-2. On Sept. 1, the state leader will arrive at Cochin International Airport (COK) in Kochi before visiting the Sri Sringeri Shankara Hindu temple in Kalady town at 18:00. On Sept. 2, Modi will commission the first domestic aircraft carrier at the Cochin Shipyard Limited facility beginning 09:30 and then travel to Mangaluru via Mangaluru International Airport (IXE). The prime minister will inaugurate several industrial projects at the New Mangalore Port in the Panambur area from 13:30. The state leader will then address a mass political gathering at the Goldfinch City event venue in Kulur before returning to New Delhi.
Increased security is highly likely near sites hosting official events on the prime minister’s itinerary. Tight security is almost certain near COK and IXE as the leader arrives and departs the two cities. Security forces could temporarily block roads near event sites as a precaution as well as other areas of Mangaluru and Kochi to facilitate the passage of the state leader’s motorcade. Localized transport disruptions are likely near events.
Advice
Plan for security-related travel disruptions at COK, IXE, and near event venues during the prime minister's visit. Confirm business appointments, road status, and transport reservations through the evening of Sept. 2. Carry proper identification documents. Heed all instructions from security personnel.
