Further intercommunal violence is possible in southern Chad over the coming days after clashes between pastoral herders and local farmers left at least 17 people dead and several others wounded in Lac Iro Department, Moyen-Chari Region, Sept. 13-14. The clashes reportedly broke out after a herd of oxen entered local farmers' fields. Authorities have since deployed an increased security presence to the affected area and brought the situation under control.

Officials may impose measures to restrict movement, such as curfews, in the event of further intercommunal clashes.
