Morocco: Air traffic controllers plan to strike nationwide Oct. 8-23
Air traffic controllers plan to strike nationwide in Morocco Oct. 8-23. Flight disruptions likely.
Event
Unionized air traffic controllers have announced plans to strike nationwide for 15 days from 15:01 Oct. 8 to demand better salaries. While organizers have not announced any protests, striking workers could hold demonstrations at airports in conjunction with the strike.
Unless averted, the work stoppage will likely lead to flight disruptions; however, workers will continue to operate state, emergency, humanitarian, and military flights. Residual disruptions to flights and airport processing operations are possible beyond Oct. 23 as officials clear the backlog of travelers.
Advice
Contact airlines to confirm flight status if booked to fly via Moroccan airports Oct. 8-23. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive at the airport early to prevent your seat from being allocated to a standby passenger. Check local media or seek updated information from local contacts on protest activity at airports, as actions could occur unannounced.
