Several pan-African activist groups under the umbrella of the Collectif des Leaders Panafricains plan to demonstrate in Ouagadougou Oct. 28. The purpose of the protest is to press for the withdrawal of French military forces from the country and to express solidarity with the people of Mali, among other matters. Organizers have as yet released no details concerning specific protest locations or times. It remains unclear whether or not authorities have granted authorization for the gathering in question. Related demonstrations are possible in other parts o the country.

Heightened security, as well as localized business and transport disruptions, are likely near any protests that may materialize. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
