An assailant shot and killed a prominent senior member of the Shiv Sena party, Sudhir Suri, in Amritsar, Punjab State, Nov. 4. The incident occurred outside the Gopal Mandir temple, where Suri was leading a demonstration with other senior Shiv Sena members. Police have detained the alleged shooter.

Protests by Shiv Sena supporters are possible in the coming hours and days. Activists may gather at Gopal Mandir temple or nearby Gopal Mandir Chowk.
