Authorities claim that the death toll will likely rise. Officials in the Kurdistan Region have reportedly called for an investigation and ordered the temporary suspension of the use of gas systems following the incident, which notably comes after a similar gas explosion occurred in Sulaymaniyah Nov. 17.
