The derailment happened Nov. 23, at Carcassonne station; however authorities now declare that disruptions are likely to continue through Nov. 25. Reports indicate that a 400-meter length of the platform has been badly damaged. The railway line affected is the main line between southwestern cities (including Toulouse) and southern cities (including Marseille).
Repair and recovery operations will severely impact freight and passenger rail operations across the region. Repairs to the station in Carcassonne will also likely cause ongoing disruption.
