Activists to stage demonstrations in about 30 cities in France, including Le Havre, Nantes, and Rennes, Dec. 18. Heightened security likely.
Activists plan to protest in approximately 30 cities across France on Dec. 18. The purpose of the demonstrations is to observe International Migrants Day and to demand improved state treatment of immigrants. Large crowds may attend gatherings. Planned demonstrations include the following:
Ajaccio: Protest at Cours Napoleon 11:30-13:30.
Le Havre: Protest at City Hall on Place de l'Hotel de Ville 17:00-21:00.
Nantes: Protest at Miroir d'Eau on Place Marc Elder 18:00-21:00.
Rennes: Protest at Place de la Republique 17:30-21:00.
Saint-Etienne: Protest at Place du Peuple 17:00-20:00.
Police will likely deploy near all protest sites to facilitate the gatherings. The presence of protesters and law enforcement officers will likely disrupt vehicular transport near protest sites. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near any protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
