India: Autorickshaw driver unions plan indefinite strike in Pune Metropolitan Region, Maharashtra State, from Nov. 28

Various autorickshaw driver unions will begin an indefinite strike across the Pune Metropolitan Region, Maharashtra State, from Nov. 28. Participants are demanding authorities act against illegal two-wheeler taxi services. Organizers claim at least 50,000 drivers will participate in the strike, as well as planned protests outside Regional Transport Office (RTO) buildings. If the strike goes ahead, autorickshaw service disruptions are likely during the labor action; commuters may seek alternative means of transport, leading to shortages. Organizers may call off the strike at short notice if negotiations with officials succeed.

Transport workers may hold additional protests during the work stoppage. Likely gathering locations include government buildings, public squares, and major roadways. Protesters may block roadways with vehicles as well as march along roadways, causing localized transport disruptions.
