Freezing rain forecast across parts of southeastern Ontario and southwestern Quebec, Canada, Nov. 25. Hazardous travel conditions likely.

Informational

Event

Freezing rain is forecast across parts of southeastern Ontario and southwestern Quebec, including Ottawa and Montreal, early Nov. 25. Environment Canada has issued red freezing rain warnings across the affected area. Due to sub-zero temperatures during the early hours of Nov. 25, falling rain could create accumulations of ice on surfaces. Ice accretions of 0.1-0.2 cm (0.4-0.8 inches) are possible in parts of the affected area. The build-up of ice will lead to slippery roads and walkways and hazardous road conditions could lead to transport disruptions.

Traffic and commercial trucking delays are possible along regional highways. Dangerous and challenging driving conditions are also likely on secondary and rural roads in the affected provinces as maintenance crews prioritize clearing major routes. Authorities could close stretches of highway if driving conditions become too hazardous.

Advice

Monitor local media for updated weather information. Verify road conditions before driving in areas where freezing rain is forecast. Allow extra time to reach destinations in these areas and carry an emergency kit and warm clothes if driving is necessary, especially on secondary or rural routes that could become impassable. If routing shipments by truck through the affected area, plan accordingly for delivery delays.
