Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada announced Nov. 25 that a coup was foiled Nov. 25. Trovoada claimed four men, including a former military officer and the former president of the national assembly, Delfim Neves, were arrested after attacking the army headquarters in Sao Tome 00:40-06:00. There have been unconfirmed reports of gunfire and explosions at the army headquarters in the capital overnight during the attack; violence has subsided.
