India: Bharatiya Janata Party to rally across Rajasthan State Dec. 1-20

Bharatiya Janata Party to rally across Rajasthan State, India, Dec. 1-20. Increased security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to rally across Rajasthan State Dec. 1-20 as a part of its so-called Campaign of People's Anger (Jan Aakrosh Abhiyan) to denounce the alleged policy failures of the state government. As a part of their action, BJP activists will launch a series of processions of specially built chariots starting from Dashera Maidan in Jaipur on Dec. 1, with similar events occurring in each district on Dec. 2. On Dec. 3-4, several carriages will travel to 200 local assembly constituencies. Organizers expect each chariot event to draw about 5,000 participants. Activists will also hold various public meetings and rallies attended by senior party leaders. The planned campaign will coincide with a long march through the state being held by the rival Indian National Congress (INC) party.

Authorities will almost certainly increase security near the march routes. Isolated clashes between police and activists, or among supporters of opposing political camps cannot be ruled out. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely.

Advice

Avoid the rallies as a standard security precaution. Do not attempt to cross protester roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them before proceeding. Allow additional travel time near BJP-related rallies. Monitor official announcements regarding additional public gatherings and any road closures. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
