Anonymous bomb threats prompted short-notice, short-term evacuations at several police stations, shopping malls, residential complexes, and schools in Skopje on Dec. 9. A bomb threat was also made against Transportation Center Skopje, the city's main bus and railway station. No explosives have so far been found in any of the incidents, which are likely connected.

The motive behind the threats is unknown. Although North Macedonia faces a low threat from domestic and transnational terrorism, authorities take each bomb threat seriously. Disruptive hoaxes typically occur in batches and could continue over the coming days.
