Warning

Event

The Peruvian Corporation of Commercial Airports and Aviation (Corporación Peruana de Aeropuertos y Aviación Comercial, CORPAC) has closed Andahuaylas Airport amid clashes between protesters and security forces Dec. 11. Reports indicate that protesters cause damage to the runway, transmitter room, and fuel storage area and have taken over ANS. Officials report that at least 50 people, including security forces and workers, are being held hostage in the facility.

It is unclear when airport operations will resume. Increased security presence is almost certain to continue over the coming days as protest activities are likely to continue. Clashes between protesters and police are likely as the demonstrators continue to demand general elections be held.

Advice

Avoid all protest activity as a standard precaution. Confirm flight schedules if traveling via ANS over the coming days.
