Nigeria: Aviation employees to protest in Abuja and Lagos, Dec. 13

Unions call on aviation employees to protest at the BPE office in Abuja and SAHCO building in Lagos, Nigeria, Dec. 13.

Informational

Event

The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) have called on Skypower Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) former employees to protest in Abuja and Lagos, Dec. 13. The purpose of the action is to denounce the alleged failure of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to pay severances after several employees were laid off following privatization in 2009. Participants will gather from 09:00 at the BPE office in Abuja and at the SAHCO building in Lagos, located within Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS).

Increased security and localized traffic disruptions are likely in the vicinity of all protest sites. Related flight disruptions at LOS are unlikely. Access to and from LOS may be obstructed due to the action. Skirmishes are possible, notably if participants obstruct travelers' access to the airport.

Advice

Avoid all protests to mitigate associated disruptions. As a precaution, allow extra time if traveling via LOS, Dec. 13. Heed the instructions of local authorities.
