Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are forecast across parts of northern, central, and western Greece through at least Dec. 15. As of Dec. 14, authorities have issued the following weather warnings across the affected area:
Orange thunderstorm warnings (the middle level on a three-tier scale): The Ionian Islands and Epirus regions.
Yellow thunderstorm warnings: West Sterea Region.
Yellow heavy rainfall warnings: Central, east, and west Macedonia, east Sterea and Evia, Thessaly, and west Peloponnese regions.
Officials could update and possibly extend the coverage of weather alerts over the coming days.
Hazardous Conditions
Sustained heavy rainfall could trigger flooding in low-lying communities near rivers, streams, and creeks. Urban flooding is also possible in developed areas with easily overwhelmed stormwater drainage systems.
