Political activists to stage demonstration march in Dakar, Senegal, from 15:00 Dec. 16; heightened security likely.

Informational

Event

Political activists associated with the Front for a Popular and Pan-African Anti-Imperialist Revolution (FRAPP) plan to stage a protest march from Place de la Nation (Place de l'Obelisque) to the BCEAO traffic circle in Dakar starting at 15:00 Dec. 16. The purpose of the action is to demand the release of alleged political prisoners.

Although previous demonstrations have largely transpired without significant incident, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased security presence near the march route as a precaution. Localized traffic disruptions are likely. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the area of the demonstration as a standard precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from the security forces. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
