Informational

Event

Healthcare workers affiliated with the Liberal Nurses organization will stage a strike across New Caledonia Dec. 15-25 to demand improvements in the provision of healthcare. Unless averted, the labor action will likely disrupt operations at healthcare facilities. As a part of the work stoppage, organizers will hold a protest march from the Social Protection Fund building along General Mangin Street toward an undisclosed government building in Noumea starting at 08:30 Dec. 15. Additional gatherings are likely during the strike period, especially near major healthcare facilities, government buildings, public squares, parks, and thoroughfares.

While violence is unlikely, police may monitor larger gatherings as a precaution. Localized transport disruptions are possible near sites where demonstrations materialize.

Advice

Confirm medical appointments Dec. 15-25. Plan for medical service delays. Contact healthcare facilities in advance for information about wait times, which could vary among hospitals and clinics. Exercise caution near any sites where demonstrations materialize.
