Security operations are ongoing at a Counter Terrorism department (CTD) facility in the Cantonment area of Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, as of Dec. 19. Detained militants at the building reportedly attacked police Dec. 18, and are holding an unknown number of security personnel hostage. Initial accounts indicate at least two officers are injured. The official casualty count is not immediately clear. No group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

Heightened security is likely in the impact area in the coming hours. Small arms fire and minor explosions cannot be ruled out. Officials may impose road closures, stay-home and/or evacuation orders, as well as limit telecommunication services in the vicinity to facilitate security operations.

The impact site is approximately 142 km (88 miles) southwest of Peshawar.
