Venezuela: Power outages reported in several areas of Sucre State Dec. 26

Power outages reported in Cumana, Montes, and Cruz Salmeron Acosta, Sucre State, Venezuela, Dec. 26.

Warning

Event

As of Dec. 26, an incident at the Tres Pico's substations had reportedly caused power outages in several areas of Sucre State, including Cumana, Montes, and Cruz Salmeron Acosta. Reports indicate that an explosion in an autotransformer caused electrical disruptions. However, authorities have not yet determined the cause of the blast. Officials with Corpoelec estimate that services could be restored by 19:00.

Disruptions to business and communications are almost certain to impact blackout-affected areas. Malfunctioning traffic signals may result in transport disruptions and longer driving times. The power outages may also cause services at some essential facilities, such as ATMs and filling stations, to be temporarily unavailable.

Advice

Plan accordingly for lingering power supply disruptions. Conserve batteries and restrict cellphone use to emergencies until power is restored. Exercise caution when driving or crossing streets in areas where traffic signals are malfunctioning.
