Chile: Authorities require pre-travel COVID-19 testing for travelers entering from China as of Jan. 3 /update 83

Authorities in Chile require pre-travel COVID-19 testing for travelers entering from China as of Jan. 3. Other restrictions remain in place.

Warning

Event

As of Jan. 3, authorities are requiring all passengers arriving from China to present a negative result from a PCR COVID-19 test taken no more than 48 hours before their flight to Chile. The measure also applies to any travelers who have been to China in the seven days prior to their arrival in Chile. Travelers will also be subject to testing upon arrival at the airport. Those who test positive must quarantine for five days. Other COVID-19 entry measures and domestic restrictions remain largely unchanged as of Jan. 3.

Domestic Measures
Facemasks are only necessary in medical settings and for individuals who test positive or may be suffering from a COVID-19 infection. Random public testing may occur based on the prevalence of the disease in a given area.

International Travel Restrictions
Vaccinated passengers who have not been to China in the seven days prior to arrival must show a vaccination record issued in the country in which the immunization was received. Visitors may also be selected at random for additional COVID-19 testing on entry, with persons testing positive being required to undergo quarantine. Unvaccinated travelers must submit a negative PCR test 48 hours before arrival. There are no entry requirements for visitors under 18 years old.

Additional requirements must be met to visit Rapa Nui.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays.
